Rubén Bonet, co-founder and executive director of Fractus, delves into the relationships between business and university and their potential in the audiovisual series SME Voices – Driving Digital Innovation. An initiative promoted by the Master of Science in Smart, Secure and Interconnected Systems (MERIT), which is taught at the UPC-EPSEM and which seeks to connect the academic world with the industrial sector to promote digital transformation and advanced technological skills in Europe, especially in SMEs.

The Fractus UPC Deep Tech Hub welcomes the launch of 6GLabNet, UPC’s new experimental infrastructure for testing and validating 5G+ and 6G technologies with AI in real-world conditions. Presented by UPC on 8 April 2026, the platform is designed to serve research, education, public administration and industry, and stands out as a pioneering scientific infrastructure in Spain and a highly advanced facility in Europe.

The UPC entrepreneurial ecosystem once again stood out at 4YFN, held from March 2 to 5 at the Gran Via venue of Fira de Barcelona. The companies participating in the Next Frontier Founders (NFF) program held a pitching session that marked the closing of the program, and five of them also showcased their solutions at the University’s stand. The pitching session, like the NFF program itself, was sponsored by Fractus within the framework of the Fractus-UPC Deep Tech Hub.

A team of researchers from the IMEM-BRT group at UPC explain, in an interview with Interempresas, how the greenhouse gas catalyst they have developed works and what applications it has. The catalyst, made from a material abundant in nature, has received the 15th UPC Award for Research Valorization, with the collaboration of Fractus, within the framework of the Fractus-UPC Deep Tech Hub.

Founded by the UPC and the UB three years ago, Virmedex Virtual Experiences SL specialises in training healthcare professionals through simulators based on video games, artificial intelligence and virtual reality. The company has consolidated its international position in Europe, Latin America and the United States, and is now preparing for a second funding round. It received the 15th UPC Research Valorisation Award, organised by the Board of Trustees with the support of Fractus and the Fractus UPC Deep-Tech Hub, among other accolades.

A UPC team has developed a ceramic, biocompatible catalyst that captures greenhouse gases and converts them into useful chemicals in a more sustainable and cost-effective way than current technologies. Fractus technology specialist Jordi Carol presented the award for the best academic record in the Master’s Degree in Automatic Systems Engineering and Industrial Electronics to Jaume Asensio Bosch during the graduation ceremony of the Terrassa School of Industrial, Aerospace and Audiovisual Engineering (ESEIAAT), held on 28 November at the Barcelona International Convention Centre (CCIB).
