University-Driven innovation takes center stage at Deep Tech Demo Day in Terrassa

Dec 03, 2025

The Fractus–UPC Deep Tech Hub today announced the successful completion of Emprèn UPC Terrassa’s Demo Day, an event that brought forward the entrepreneurial spirit and technological potential within the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) community. The initiative is a core element of the Hub’s mission to cultivate university-born startups and empower future innovators.

Fractus, itself founded at UPC more than two decades ago, continues to invest in the next generation of deep-tech talent. By partnering with UPC, the company aims to inspire and support students and researchers seeking to transform bold ideas into impactful ventures.

During this week’s Demo Day, two standout student projects demonstrated the strength and creativity emerging from the university ecosystem:
Durbec Aeronautical. An intelligent, all-in-one digital platform designed to streamline drone operations. The solution integrates mission planning, fleet management, flight tracking, reporting, and regulatory compliance—allowing operators to reduce operational risks and improve efficiency.
FaaSup. A sustainable furniture-rental model that promotes circular use and eliminates waste. Users select the furniture they need, while FaaSup manages delivery, assembly, maintenance, and retrieval, offering full flexibility and a minimized environmental footprint.

“These projects show what becomes possible when talent is empowered and early-stage innovators are given the right tools and guidance,” said Jordi Carol, Patent Engineer at Fractus. “As a company born from UPC, we are committed to ensuring that students and researchers have a pathway to turn their ideas into technology with real-world impact.”

The Fractus–UPC Deep Tech Hub was established to accelerate the creation of deep-tech startups stemming from academic research and student innovation. Through mentoring, training, technical insights, and entrepreneurial support, the Hub provides a structured environment for teams to evolve from concept to company.

To all UPC students and research teams, we encourage you to keep innovating and dreaming ambitiously,” added Ruben Bonet, Fractus’ Executive President. “The next breakthrough could start here, and we are here to help you make it happen.”
