Carmen Borja, CTO of Fractus, inaugurated the session "Strategic Alliances between University and Industry: Technology and Talent for Innovation," held on May 21 as part of the eighth edition of the IoT Solutions World Congress. In her presentation, she detailed the successful collaboration between Fractus and UPC, which has led to the creation of the Fractus-UPC Deep Tech Hub.

The Social Hub Barcelona has been the epicentre of an extraordinary celebration: the 10th anniversary of the Challenge Based Innovation (CBI) programme! Since its inception, this programme has been the catalyst for creativity and innovation among hundreds of students from UPC, Esade and the IED Barcelona), who have developed 68 innovative solutions to global challenges using CERN's technology and knowledge.

Why Deep Tech startups should invest in a solid patent strategy. Carles Puente, representing Fractus, was participated in this roundtable on the growth of the startup ecosystem in Europe and the importance of intellectual property in securing successful funding. In this context, Puente pointed out that "patents are not defensive tools, patents are business tools that deep tech companies should embed in the core of their business models".

Fractus awarded the Fractus Prize to the best academic record of the Master’s degree in Technology and Engineering Management to the student Laia Martínez Capella. The delivery took place during the graduation ceremony of more than 850 students from the School of Industrial, Aeronautical and Audiovisual Engineering of Terrassa (ESEIAAT) of the UPC.

On these days it has taken place the Barcelona Deep Tech Summit. About fifty companies from the UPC and various researchers from the University have presented transformative developments and trends in energy transition, industry digitalization, connectivity, urban mobility, biomedicine and space technology. The Fractus-UPC Deep Tech Hub was also present.

IA, 5G-6G, big data, robotics, cybersecurity, computers and IoT protocols and 3D and 4D printing are the technologies with the most research groups at the UPC, according to the study 'Analysis, map and detection of Deep Tech areas and technologies'.

The hub also participated in the central event of the celebration of the 25 years of the Innova Program: the round table with managers of companies that emerged from the UPC. You can see the video of the celebration.

The 14th UPC Research Valorisation Award has recognised 4DPolysense as the best technology transfer project, the NECADA program as the best invention or work for its application in the market and the Process Talks spin-off as the best technology-based company. The Nimble Diagnostics spin-off has also received a special acknowledgement. The award is supported by Fractus as part of the Fractus Deep Tech Hub.
